ドラッカー「断絶の時代」を語る
With this new translation of The Age of Discontinuity, I am grateful to Diamond Sha for publishing it. It is now exactly thirty years since this book first appeared. Then, the discontinuities of which it speaks were predictions, they have now become realities. The emergence of knowledge, for instance, as a central resource of work production, the shift from the manual to the knowledge worker as the core of the workforce in every developed country, and the continuing crisis of government.
But still, I believe this book is the only one perhaps so far, that tries to analyze, to understand, to explore the roots and the causes of these tremendous changes and to give a description of the world in which we are living and will continue to live for many years and of the impact that these discontinuities (will have) on business and economics, society and politics for many years to come.

『断絶の時代』が、最初の出版からちょうど30年たったいま、翻訳を新たにして再びダイヤモンド社から出版されることを、ありがたく思っています。この本で私がとりあげた「断絶」は、当時は未来予測としてとらえられていましたが、いまでは現実となっています。たとえば、知識は中心的な生産資源となり、また、すべての先進国で労働力の中心が肉体労働から知識労働に移行し、政府の危機は続いています。
30年後のいまでも、この大変動の本質と原因を分析し、理解し、探ろうとした本は、おそらくほかにはありません。現にわれわれが生き、これから生きていくであろう世界のあり方を説明したのも、「断絶」が今後のビジネスや経済、社会や政治に与える影響を論じたのも、おそらくこの本だけだと思います。
